- 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- Half tsp jeera
- 1 bay leaf
- 1-2 dried red chilli
- as per taste Salt
- 2 tsp Sugar
- As required Oil + Ghee
- 1-2 slit green chillies
- as required Turmeric powder
Steps to make to make Dal Khichdi
- Firstly mix the grains and was them well then soak them in water for about half an hour.
- Then heat a pan, add 2 tbsp of ghee/oil then add some jeera, bay leaf and red chillies. Let them splutter a bit. Then add chopped onion, chopped tomatoes and ginger-garlic paste. Mix everything well and fry the masalas for 2 mins. Then add dry masalas like cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and 1 tsp of sugar. Now fry them until oil starts releasing from the masalas.
- Then add all the veggies into the masala. You can add any veggies of your choice. Mix everything well and fry them along with the masalas for about 2 mins. Now keep this mixture aside.
- Now take a pressure cooker and add the soaked grains into it. Then add 4 cups of hot water. Now add the masalas and vegetable mixture into it. Mix everything well. Now add some more salt, turmeric powder. Mix it well & cover the cooker.
- Wait for 3 whistles on high flame. Now lower the flame and cook for 7 to 8 mins more. Switch off the flame. Let the air release by its own.
